Peach City Radio's vinyl drive took place on September 3, and by all accounts was a massive success.
Volunteers (L to R Jon Pelletier, Larry Saidman, Dave Del Rizzo, Ian Mackinder, Don Ludington, Tim Tweed, Craig Henderson, not pictured - Jackie Del Rizzo) welcomed vinyl donations from the public at the entrance to the South Okanagan Events Centre between 4pm and 7pm yesterday. The response from the public was nearly overwhelming.
"We received nearly 3000 pieces of vinyl, along with a few turntables, some cassettes and other audio related items during the time we were in front of the SOEC" explained Vinyl Drive coordinator Jackie Del Rizzo. "That doesn't include the almost 1000 pieces we've picked up from individuals over the course of this week." Peach City Radio would like to thank the generous vinyl donors, as well as the tireless volunteers who have collected, and will be sorting and categorizing vinyl for the next few weeks.
The records and equipment collected during this drive will become part of the Peach City Radio used vinyl inventory, and will be available for purchase at the upcoming Okanagan Vinyl Fest on September 21 at the Shatford Centre. Peach City Radio is hosting the event which will see vendors from across BC participating with their collections of vintage vinyl, new and used audio gear as well as repurposed records and vinyl art for sale to the public. Admission is $2 from 10AM to 3PM, with a special 'early bird' entry fee of $5 between 9AM and 10AM. All proceeds from the Okanagan Vinyl Fest will help Peach City Radio build a full-time broadcast FM community radio station in Penticton.
