Happy New Year Peach City Radio Members and Friends.
It's already been a couple of months since I was elected as President of the Peach City Community Radio Society - and they have been quite a whirlwind.
In those two months, the board has had two productive meetings, I was invited to take part in all of the committee gatherings to get updates on the work they're doing, I sat in on a great Radio 101 session, and we had a fun night at the pub to celebrate the holidays.
I've also spent a great deal of time getting up to speed on the progress that our Station Coordinator, Ophira Horwitz, has made in her time at CFUZ. She is bustling along, creating infrastructure for our volunteers and working full-time out of our studio. I've taken time over the past month to acquaint myself with the deliverables of the grant that made it possible for us to hire her, and to work closely with VP, Claire, to keep this project rolling along.
January will be no quieter - as we have many meetings and training opportunities taking place for our programmers and volunteers. Whether you are thinking about getting involved or have been taking part in some capacity before now, there are things to check out!
On January 4th, the Programming Committee will host an All Programmer's Meeting (open to all who have or want to have shows on CFUZ). On January 19th we'll host an intro to community radio session called Radio 101, and on several nights (January 24, 25 & 26) we will offer Radio 201 and 202 - which are new sessions designed to further develop our programmers on the ins and outs of the studio and being on the air. The board will also gather for a full day of strategic planning - making sure we are on track for a successful year.
We are full speed ahead - as much as we can be - with our group of hard-working volunteers. Thank-you for your patience as we get the station moving from one exciting phase to the next. Want to help? We have several committees looking for your ideas and enthusiasm and would love to add you to our growing list of community radio volunteers. Contact us at volunteer @ peachcityradio.org for more information.
Lastly, I look forward to working alongside our hands-on board of directors. Claire, Andrew 1, Andrew 2, Chris, Dave, Lydia, Sue & Ian thank you all for stepping up to continue this project. We're off to a great start and I can't wait to spend way too much time with you all over the next year.
