There’s no way around the fact that memory erodes as we get older. The hippocampus, the area of your brain responsible for building memory, loses 5 percent of its nerve cells with each passing decade. Plus, aging slows production of a neurotransmitter vital to learning and memory. Based on these facts, scientists once believed that a person’s mental ability peaked early in adulthood, then went downhill from there.
But over the last few decades, research has found that adults’ brains are still able to form new, memory-building neural networks in a process known as neuroplasticity. The reassuring latest thinking: With a little effort, anyone can boost their power of recollection. On todays show we will have fun with a few of these.

We have some exciting news today about Friendship! Did you know it is a big ingredient to longevity?
Longevity experts agree that maintaining lifelong friendships is one of the secrets to living a long and purposeful life. The idea of a woman friend who is your witness through life, was established in the 19th century in China.
Sworn sisters were women who spent time together talking with, embroidering with, and sharing everything with. While not sisters by blood, sworn sisters were held together by strong bonds, much more so than a woman had with her biological sister. Everything, from feelings, to thoughts, to emotions, to desires, were shared between sworn sisters.
Wabi Women are like sworn sisters- so join our tribe! Live a long life!
This is our new series on the Midlife Brain and its amazing ability to reset our calendar age to our biological age, if we let it!
Crystal and I think as midlife women and beyond we need to stop acting as society has prescribed us to act- less outgoing, less demonstrative, frail and feeble – and start acting how we feel- strong, empowered wisdom keepers who have something to share with the world.
How we feel biologically has a lot to do with how we act.
There is so much to share with you today you might want to get out your Wabi Women notebook to jot down any thing that sparks interest amusement or thought. Then this week you can begin to chart the next seven weeks together as explore how to retool our mind and ignore the “what is suppose to happen now, calendars”,
Episode 50 - Wabi Women-Perfection 2019- Peach City Radio Posted: January 27, 2019 - 58 minutes - 35.3 Mb -
When you hold an heirloom tomato in your hand, freshly picked from your garden, slowly ripened by the late summer sun, it is deliciously imperfect in its appearance. Often misshapen, under or over-sized, with cracked seams and blemished skin. Mother Nature does not grow things perfectly, including us.
The beauty of age, the richness of character, the importance of imperfection, and
the reality of impermanence.
When we grasp the idea that imperfection, holds its own beauty, we can cease
the torture of trying to attain the impossible goal of perfection. Welcome to Wabi Sabi.
A Japanese pool that Westerners long to dive into.
Wabi Sabi celebrates everything we lack in todays world.
The philosophy is simple.
Nothing is perfect. Nothing lasts. And Nothing is finished.
Yet what is normal or natural is the antithesis of our North American consumer
driven youth obsessed culture.
We willingly pay to be injected, frozen, peeled and plumped as if a tighter, shinier
version of us will make us more acceptable.
Wabi Sabi says your appearance is only enhanced by embracing the old and
worn parts that have served you so well, and appreciating them for the deep resonate beauty they evoke. You are nothing but imperfectly perfect, just like that tomato.
We all could do with a good Wabi Sabi wash.

This month buy a journal that will become your best friend in 2019. You may wish to design a cover that will help you start to personalize it. Make a pocket area in the back. Here is a picture of ours. It’s super simple, I just used cardboard, tape and then decorated with some buttons. This back pocket will hold all those little things- like Letters to your Future Self, that need a home in your Life Book 2019.
